ZF electric drive for light commercial vehicles to be mass-produced and installed in Isuzu electric trucks

German automotive components giant ZF has started mass production of its CeTrax lite electric drive for light commercial vehicles. The component combines a motor, inverter and reduction gearbox and is characterised by its quietness and lightweight design. It was installed in the ELF electric vehicle (EV) truck developed by Isuzu Motors.

Mass production began on the assembly line at the company’s production site in Friedrichshafen, southern Germany. It was designed for light commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 7.5 tonnes. The electric drive weighs 120 kilograms, with a maximum motor output of 150 kilowatts and 1,500 Newton metres of torque.

It will meet the needs of urban and ‘last mile’ freight transport. Although it has not revealed production targets, ZF sees the electric drive as “an important milestone in its ‘Next Generation Mobility’ strategy”. It plans to supply commercial vehicle manufacturers in the US, Asia and elsewhere.
