Toyota Launches Next-Generation Mobility “e-Palette
September 15, 2025 Toyota launched the e-Palette as a BEV that can be used for various mobility services.
The e-Palette has been positioned as the core model to realize Toyota’s Autono-MaaS concept, with concept cars exhibited since the 2010s and a Tokyo 2020 Olympic-specification vehicle in operation for a limited time, and was initially targeted for commercialization in the early 2020s.
However, due to issues such as the performance and durability of BEVs and automated driving, as well as social acceptability, the launch plan was postponed, and now the car is finally available for sale.
Initially, the car will be equipped with an automatic driving system equivalent to Level 2, but the company aims to introduce a car with a Level 4-compliant automatic driving system in the market by FY2027.
The most distinctive feature of the e-Palette is its ability to provide “multiple uses of the car.
For example, the e-Palette can be used as a shuttle bus in the morning and evening, and as a kitchen car or other retail operation while recharging during the day.
The concept of being able to change interior fixtures over a time axis has never been seen before in a commercial vehicle, and it will be interesting to see how far it can respond to the needs of business operators and other users.
The e-Palette has a cruising range of approximately 250 km, a maximum speed of 80 km/h, and a charging time of approximately 40 minutes for quick charging (up to 80% of full charge) and approximately 12 hours for normal charging.
With a seating capacity of 17 passengers including the driver, it can provide sufficient transportation capacity in depopulated areas.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is from 29 million yen including tax, but with the Ministry of the Environment’s subsidy of 15,835,000 yen (as of September 15, 2025), the price can be reduced by about half.
The vehicle’s versatility allows it to be used for a variety of purposes, including transportation support, store operations, and entertainment.
The role of the e-Palette in understanding mobility needs at a higher resolution is significant, and future trends will be closely watched.
