Tour of domestic SAF production equipment for elementary school students

Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. and SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY jointly held a tour of the SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) production equipment at the Cosmo Oil Sakai Refinery for 4th to 6th graders living in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture.
About 30 children selected by lottery participated in the tour, observing the process of domestic SAF production using waste cooking oil as raw material and deepening their understanding of the importance of energy supply and the establishment of a recycling-oriented society.

Cosmo Oil, JGC Holdings Corporation, and Revo International Corporation signed an “Agreement on Collaboration and Cooperation in Promoting Recycling of Waste Cooking Oil for Building a Sustainable Society” with Sakai City in November 2024 in order to promote the recycling of waste cooking oil, the raw material for SAF and other products.
The purpose of the tour was to provide local children with a learning opportunity through a visit to a domestic SAF production facility, the first large-scale production in Sakai City in Japan.

After learning basic knowledge about SAF, the participating children simulated the process of collecting used cooking oil in PET bottles and placing them in collection boxes as part of the process of recycling used cooking oil.
After that, they were taken on a bus tour of the refinery for a close-up look at the SAF production equipment and the waste cooking oil receiving station. A commemorative photo was taken in front of the 50-meter-high SAF production equipment.

Cosmo Energy Group and SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY recognize that decarbonization and the realization of a recycling-oriented society are important themes for the future, and will continue to jointly promote initiatives that contribute to the decarbonization of the aviation industry.
SAF’s supply chain will be strengthened.

The SAF produced by SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY at Cosmo Oil’s Sakai Refinery was selected by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) in 2021 as a subsidized project*2 to “establish a supply chain model for SAF production from domestic waste cooking oil”. This is the first domestic SAF to be produced on a large scale in Japan.
It is the first domestically produced SAF in Japan on a large scale.

The environmental value of SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY is proven by the international certification system for sustainable products, “ISCC CORSIA Certification” and “ISCC EU Certification”.
SAFFAIRE SKY ENERGY is a joint venture established in 2022 by Cosmo Oil, JGC Holdings Corporation, and Revo International Inc.
