How will automotive technology change for 2030?
The automotive business environment is changing rapidly from 2024 to 2025.
For example, the BEV market is slowing down and the profit environment is changing due to the tariff policy by the U.S. Trump administration.
OEMs are reviewing some of their business and technology strategies.
However, there has been no major change in the direction of technology development with a view to 2030-2040. Toyota and Honda have announced the postponement of some BEV-related investments, but BEV development itself is continuing.
Also, in the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) field, companies are moving toward commercialization almost as planned,
Toyota’s new RAV4, announced in May 2025, will be the first to incorporate the Arene OS, a software platform for the coming SDV era.
Furthermore, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are taking the lead in efforts to standardize the Application Programming Interface (API) in SDV for implementation in 2026.
This report covers the technology trends that are likely to become mainstream in 2025 and beyond, and briefly summarizes them by field.
The report will serve as a communication tool between the engineering and planning/management departments for engineers who have just entered the automotive industry, as well as for OEMs and suppliers to understand their competitiveness in the development of global automotive technologies.
