Higher motor speeds and new material trends

June 2025At CWIEME, the world’s largest motor-related exhibition held in Berlin, Germany, numerous exhibitors demonstrated trends in drive motor technology.
The development of motor technology for high speed rotation, lamination technology, and proposals for amorphous materials for further improvement of electrical efficiency stood out.

The trend toward higher speeds is becoming even clearer, with the aim of securing torque in the high-speed range of drive motors.
It is reported that some Chinese OEMs are already developing motors with higher rpm than 30,000 rpm.
However, with higher speeds come issues such as iron loss, thermal management, and the durability of adhesive motor cores.

As one solution, there has been a move to propose amorphous materials for motor core materials.
A major Chinese manufacturer is reportedly planning to develop and commercialize a motor core using amorphous material with a plate thickness of 0.02 mm.
BaoSteel, China’s largest steel manufacturer, is also exhibiting motor cores made of amorphous material, and some companies are now in the midst of full-scale efforts.

Amorphous materials have higher strength than steel materials and have the advantage of being able to be made into thinner sheets.
However, production technology issues remain, and it is expected to take a certain amount of time for amorphous materials to become widely used.
There are concerns that if amorphous materials become widely used in the future, it may have a considerable impact on the motor core business of steelmakers.

We will survey and analyze the eAxle industry (in-house OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, etc.) and related component industries (motors, inverters, e-gears, etc.), and report in detail on the industry, including issues and future direction, based on interviews with industry players.
The objective of this report is to provide an overall picture and an understanding of the major players in each component field, as well as a detailed report on points of interest for future trend outlook.
We hope that this report will serve as a foothold for deeper investigation of the components industry, as well as a useful resource for understanding related industries, understanding the current situation, and developing strategies based on future industry trends.

We look forward to your request.
