Comfort” of the car of the future based on the five senses

Both automated driving and electrification technologies are being developed daily toward perfection. In the midst of these changes, the “comfort” of occupants is also expected to change significantly.
We have organized and composed the comfort of a car in terms of the five human senses. This section introduces the technologies to respond to the changing comfort level due to the evolution of automatic driving technology and the spread of EVs, as well as the efforts of the industry.

First, as a summary perspective, what can be seen beyond the boundaries of comfort and discomfort and the five senses? We will ask the question of value creation of mobile space in new mobility. In the area of tactile sensation as a bodily sense, the use of radiant heaters as air conditioning technology for future vehicles and the usefulness of thermal trend and thermal barrier interlayer membranes in automotive glass are discussed.

In vision, a digital detox cabin was proposed with a model-based approach from motion sickness to operability for motion comfort. On the other hand, in the auditory sense, a model for evaluating car quality by sound using auditory system features and PSZ active noise suppression and desired sound passing technologies that contribute to a comfortable and safe sound environment in the cabin are being studied.
In the area of olfaction, the current status of efforts to address “smell” in the cabin and technologies to visualize smells using smell sensors are introduced, and in a unique area, the sensory characteristics of gum and the effects of chewing on the sense of taste are the subject of research.
