Chinese Automakers, Next to Driving, Flying?

Some Chinese automakers are accelerating the development of eVTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) and flying cars that can fly at low altitudes.
Xiaopeng Automobile (Xpeng), a new BEV manufacturer, is pushing forward with the development and manufacturing of eVTOL and flying cars through its subsidiary Xiaopeng Huitian (XPENG AEROHT).

The company plans to develop a “Land Aircraft Carrier,” a modular flying car that can separate the flight vehicle from the mother vehicle, and to complete construction of a plant to manufacture the flight vehicle part in the third quarter of 2025 (July to September), with mass production of the “Land Aircraft Carrier” scheduled to begin in 2026.
The Guangqi Group has developed the GOVE, a modularized design that allows separation of the flight vehicle from the vehicle chassis, and in December 2024 unveiled the new eVTOL product “GOVY AirJet” with a range of over 200 km.
Aerofugia, a subsidiary of Geely Technology Group, has developed the AE200, an eVTOL with a range of 200 km and a maximum takeoff weight of 2,500 kg, and plans to obtain type certification by 2026 and begin commercial operation by 2030. The AE200 has a range of 200 km and a maximum takeoff weight of 2,500 kg.
