A new era of fierce competition with the evolution of AI and robots
The evolution of AI has been remarkable and is fundamentally changing the way people work and live.
It is often said that “AI is capable of everything but physical phenomena,” and through the intervention of AI-controlled humanoid robots, we are finally entering a stage where its capabilities extend to the physical world.
Humanoid robots have a strong affinity with the automotive industry, and there is significant room for automotive OEMs and parts suppliers to become involved as both users and manufacturers.
Technologies cultivated in the automotive industry, such as components (especially sensors and actuators), control systems, and design methods, can be transferred to robots.
For this reason, investment in humanoid robots from the automotive industry has been rapidly increasing in recent years.
Tesla will begin mass production of the third generation of Optimus in early 2026, aiming for an annual production of 1 million units by 2030.
BYD plans to introduce 1,500 humanoid robots to its production lines in 2025, expanding to 20,000 by 2026.
This will automate processes such as inspection, quality check, and labeling.
In June 2025, Boyuan, a venture capital firm affiliated with Bosch, established a joint venture with Galbot, a Chinese startup, and started R&D and commercialization of general-purpose humanoid robots.
In November of the same year, Schaeffler also announced a partnership with Germany’s Neura Robotics and announced plans to deploy four-digit numbers of humanoid robots on its own production lines by 2035, while also embarking on the production of gears for robot joints.
CASE is now a thing of the past, and a new era of fierce competition, “ARES (AI/Robot/Electric/SDV),” has begun.
