Recent Developments in AI Act and ISO Standards

With the rapid development of AI technology in recent years, the development of ISO standards for AI and the implementation of the AI Act in the EU are progressing.

Under ISO’s SC42, various standards have been published, including ISO/IEC 5338, which specifies the life cycle process of AI systems; the ISO/IEC 5259 series, which specifies data quality standards for reliable AI; ISO/IEC TR5469, which specifies considerations when developing AI systems as functions for functional safety; and ISO/IEC 42001, which specifies management systems. 5469, and ISO/IEC 42001, which specifies management systems.

In addition, the AI Act will be implemented in phases, with regulations for general-purpose AI (GPAI) models coming into effect this year and for high-risk AI systems next year.
At the same time, the coordination and development of harmonized standards is underway from the perspective of international cooperation. These trends will serve as extremely important guidelines for ensuring reliability, transparency, and ethics in the development and use of AI in companies.
This report provides an overview of these standards and regulations and how companies should respond to them in the future.

Are these international standards really useful in the field? Thinking about “utilization” of standards

In recent years, development activities for in-vehicle systems and other products must conform to a variety of international standards. Do you have any of the following problems in your development activities using standards?
Conformance to standards has become a mere formality, such as filling in templates in a formal manner, and it is difficult to interpret and implement the requirements of standards in the field because they are almost directly listed in the development regulations.

Each standard contains best practices that are effective in achieving its purpose. In other words, compliance with standards is an opportunity for improvement toward “better manufacturing” and “better products.
If compliance with standards is a must, why not consider “utilizing” those standards in a meaningful way?

This session will cover how to systematically incorporate the requirements of standards into your organization’s development regulations. We will consider our own tasks to comply with various standards through hands-on activities and discussions on the operation of development regulations.
ISO 26262 2nd edition and Automotive SPICE 4.0 will be used as reference standards, but the ideas can be applied to other standards as well.
