Important updates to the Gemini App
To make it easier for users to manage their own data, Google is updating the data management features of the Gemini App Activity by introducing a new feature called “Temporary Chat” in the Gemini App.
-Temporary Chat: This new feature will allow users to quickly initiate chats with Gemini that are not used for chat personalization or model training.
Temporary chats will not appear in recent chats or Gemini App Activity.
Temporary chats are stored for 72 hours for Gemini responsiveness and security.
-Uploads: The data handling for uploads will also be updated.
The Gemini App Activity setting on the Gemini App Activity page will be renamed to “Save Activity”.
When this setting is turned on, past chats will be visible in Recent Chats and Gemini App Activity and can be resumed from where they left off at any time.
Some of the data uploaded (files, videos, questions asked, photos shared with Gemini, etc.) will be used to improve Google services.
To prevent this data from being used to improve our services, please turn off “Save Activity”.
If the Gemini App Activity setting is currently turned off, the “Save Activity” setting will remain off unless you turn it on.
-Gemini voice and Gemini Live recordings: This new setting in Gemini App Activity allows you to choose whether or not voice and Gemini Live recordings of your conversations with Gemini will be used to improve Google services. and Gemini Live recordings will be used to improve Google services.
The audio of your conversation with Gemini includes the audio collected when you click the microphone button.
Gemini Live recordings include audio, video, and screen sharing.
This new setting is off by default, but can be turned on at any time.
As in the past, Google’s use of user activity to improve the service (including training of generative AI models) will be supported by human reviewers.
To protect your privacy, chats will be detached from your personal account before being sent to the service provider.
